It is now 10 years since the Succession Bill was passed into Law in 2007, but has stalled to be tabled in parliament due to the need for amendments of some sections. Activists say a lot of discussions have been done, but little is achieved and now plan to front a petition to reform the succession Act into Law.

The Succession Bill could not provide concrete solutions for the widows to inherit property as a right and are always left out to be cheated by mostly spouse relatives. This means that the Bill does not promote Gender equality, which has left a majority of women affected by the practice of customary norms and practices that deprive the widows of the rights to ownership of land and property.
