The land acquisition Act 1965 talks about compulsory acquisition of land; but because it failed, Government has come up with the land amendment of the constitution to compulsory acquire land.
In 2017 government submitted the Constitution amendment Bill before Parliament to amend Article 26 of the constitution to easy up land acquisition process for government development projects. But Parliament instead produced a report advising government to withdraw the constitutional amendment bill on land and introduce an amendment to the Land Acquisition Acct 1965.
The Bill is already concluded and the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development is already engaged in consultations. in order to provide smooth land acquisition processes, government has also introduced Land Tribunals to handle land disputes that may fail Land Acquisition for government.
